Something for Father's Day (and for every day too)

Have you heard about Sugru?  

Sugru - fun and useful

 
It is only fairly recently that I have and since then I have been wanted to try it. So I was very happy to be sent some by the lovely people at Sugru. If you are still looking for that Father's Day present then this might be the very thing. (In this case it is this mother's present and a few other people to whom I have given a pack.)




So what is Sugru?  Sugru is a mouldable glue. It looks and feels a bit like plasticine so you can have fun rolling it between your fingers, but it is a glue so you can stick it to things, stick stuff together, mend stuff etc. After 24 hours it turns into a flexible silicone that stays until you want to remove it. It sticks to most surfaces and it is waterproof, heat resistant ( check product for temperatures) and water resistant. 


In a world where there is a constant demand to buy, buy, buy new things, it is nice to have a designer who created something that enables us to fix the stuff we already have.

In this Rebel Tech Kit you get a booklet with 14 different ideas to fix, hack and improve your gadgets, 4 packets of Sugru ( in different colours), a handy tin, and a scraper. The retail price (as of June 2017) is approximately £10. 

When I was telling my friends at work about Sugru and how great it is, they asked if I was selling it as I was so enthusiastic. No, I am not but I do recommend  it. I am going to use the white pack to make a holder for my electric toothbrush top. It will stick on our tiles just above the bathroom sink.

 As for the other packs - I am going to have lots of fun deciding what to do with them.

Butterflies on a Sunday

I want to tell you how much I love indietutes blog. There are a wealth of wonderful patterns and advice, and fun ideas of things to do for all the family.

I found this lovely butterfly idea and on Sunday morning we decided to make one. As you can probably tell from the photos, Mary and I had great fun with glue and paint.

Folksy, Sue Ryder and Upcycle Christmas

I was in a mad rush last week. As usual I had left things to the last minute to make my entry for the competition.

It had to be something from a charity shop that you upcycled.

I went to my local Sue Ryder shop and got a huge quilt/duvet cover. I loved the fabric and wanted to use as much of it as possible so I designed a skirt. Lacking a dressmakers dummy, I made it round me which was fun.

The skirt was made in time for the deadline and the results are out. The standard was really high and I think everyone did brilliantly.

All the entries are now on ebay and any money raised will go to Sue Ryder. So do have a good long look here.

And although I did not win I am rather pleased with myself at even attempting something and now I want to make more clothes so I am hunting for a very cheap adjustable dressmakers dummy.

Fun at Home

We have had lots of fun going out for days but sometimes you have to stay in. Luckily Mary is very imaginative and loves the world of make-believe and dressing up. So I knew she would be pleased when this arrived in the post from Yellow Moon and she was..she was over the moon. It is a make you own nail varnish kit from kid's crafts.

The instructions are very clear so she only needed a little help from mum.

And here she is with the finished nail varnish in the lovely bottles. She chose to do blue and pink from the 4 colour options available.

Of course one had to be pink!

We both had great fun and it is nice knowing that after the making there is still some nail varnish left to make her nails pretty (and mum's of course) another day. The kit also came with toe divider and a pretty flower emery board (which I have borrowed, sorry Mary). The extra good thing about this kit is that the nail varnish just washes off.

We were both very happy. And I am browsing the Yellow Moon online catalague for more fun things for Christmas.

Summer Days - Monday

It is the Summer holidays. I am not at work for another five weeks and so I am looking forward to a summer full of fun with Mary. Hopefully I will remember to take my camera so I can record our days.
Today we went to the city centre park.
I watched Mary playing.

I admired my red shoes.

I had a lie down and looked up.

And looked up some more.

Then we went to the library. Mary has a pose which she turns on every time now.

On the way there we had picked up a parcel from the Post Office. It was for Mary - Make your own nail varnish kit from kid's kits. Mary could not wait to try it. When we got home she rushed to do it without taking off her bag or hat. I pulled off her hat as you can see by her messy hair.

I will report more about the nail varnish kit next time.

Our first day together was good fun. More tomorrow.
