Patchwork Cushion Day 3

I haven't got much further on my patchwork.  I had to add another strip as it turned out that I couldn't do maths and it wasn't square.

I have taken out the tacking stitches and paper from the middle hexagons and now all I have to do is decide how I am going to do the border.  And this is the thing that is taking up all my time.  I do not know!

There has been surprise at how fast it has been over day 1 and 2 but the hexagons are not that big at only 4cm at their widest.   I have included a pen in the photo so you can see how small it really is.

Overall I am happy, there are a few bits which could have been sewn better but it is easy to get into a nice rhythm when sewing, and sewing the hexagons into a strip and then sewing strips together makes it go quickly.

So today (which is now Day 4) I have to decide about the border.

I suppose it might depend on what you want to use it for? I thought PINK at first but it might be overpowering. I also wondered if (like me!) you agonised over which direction to put the paisley motifs on the pink bits!

It will be a cushion cover so I have to decide whether to straighten out the borders and if not what shall I do..but I have a bit of an idea now.

As to the pinks - I was going to say I put them randomly but I do remember turning one or two round as I didn't want them going in the same direction. But with this one I did want an idea of randomness.

It's always a bit tricky deciding on a border for hexagons- needs a bit of geometry! It has come on really well.

Thanks Dotty. Geometry is really not my strong point but doing patchwork is a good way to learn quickly. They should do it more in schools.
