Creative Colour Challenge - Week 1 - Sunshine Yellow

I have joined the Creative Colour Challenge as created and organised by Louise Gale.

Each week in August we will explore a different colour (and just add white or black).

The first colour was Sunshine Yellow. I was a little bit late with this one and did not do anything until last night. I played around with some simple embroidery stitches - just doing the first thing that came into my head and out of the needle - so it was doodling with thread.

I think this challenge is going to be a great way to find out about colour and texture. There were some wonderful creative projects from other people and Louise is showing some on her blog here.

Week 2 is Raspberry Red. Here I come...

Day2Day & Challenge

I missed out on the day2day yesterday as I had a bad headache. I had put it off until the evening but then did not feel well enough! There is a lesson - never put of for another time what you can do right away!!

Here it is for today

Each month the UK Etsy group put forward a challenge for anyone who wants to submit a piece of work. I thought I would have a go. The challenge for July is Mushrooms. I have been making curved purses for a while. They are a lovely shape and just the right size to carry your money and also your cards, and then pop the purse in your pocket or bag. I also wanted to do a bit of embroidery again. So I combined the two and here it is:

The lining of the purse is the fabric it is on, and it does up with a pink zip. I enjoyed making it. It was dark when I took the photo so I might try again in the daylight tomorrow.

Little Red Flower

I knitted a large flower for a brooch, using Rowan Big Wool Tuft. I really enjoyed it. I then felted it using very hot water, soap, and a good battering in my bathroom.

So much did I enjoy it that I wanted to make another flower. However, this time I'll try smaller, thought I. I ended up using red embroidery cotton as a yarn and darning needles to knit with. It turned out rather well. You can see it in etsy at the link above and also on my flickr page. But I have posted a photo here as well.
In the middle is an antique 19th century glass button. On the back is sewn a silver plated brooch back.
I am really quite happy with it.
